It's home to one of the top-rated hotels on the planet, a plethora of fine dining, and a downtown museum district that houses three major museums all within a few block radius. For an unexpected weekend splurge, Tacoma will surprise and delight.

The works of the finest glass artists in the world show up in well-curated shows. The theater setting of the hot shop gives those who know nothing about glass a primer in glass blowing 101 where you can watch a piece of art take shape from raw materials before your eyes (Tip: leave your sweater in the car - it gets warm in there). At the museum stome, you can buy momentos from inexpensive souvenirs to excuisite showpieces. This museum is a Tacoma original and helped put this city on the cultural map. It's a must-see.
