A Day in the Columbia River Gorge

The Columbia River Gorge boasts some of the most beautiful scenery of the Northwest (and fans of the region will agree that's really saying something!) While most attractions are of the scenic vista variety, there's plenty of options for families who want to get out of the car and explore as well!

The Multnomah Falls Lodge dining room is located in a beautiful building on the National Register of Historic Places, overlooks the falls, and is surprisingly affordable. Time a meal right after hiking to the top of the falls, and youll have worked up a great appetite! If you time it right, their Sunday brunch is awesome!
There are many great trails throughout the gorge; our favorite is Bridal Veil Falls, a 1.7 mile hike that still climbs substantially, affording great views!
Sounds kind of boring, right? Its actually very interesting (and the scenery is lovely!). Kids can learn about salmon spawning and even see them migrating up the dam. At the fish hatchery, you can view giant sturgeon and trout, and play on a playground near the river. Best of all, its all free!  More

All the driving along the gorge makes kids squirmy, which is why we always stop to hike. There are many great trails throughout the gorge; our favorite is Bridal Veil Falls, a 1.7 mile hike that still climbs substantially, affording great views! To find it, take the Corbett exit and follow signs!
