Bainbridge Island Splurge!

Only a 30-minute ferry trip from downtown Seattle, Bainbridge Island is a world away from the city. The island's attractions and amenities make it an ideal spot for a getaway without having to travel far from Seattle. The island consists of two parts - the village of Winslow, clustered near the ferry terminal, and the rest of the island, which is rural, farmy and forested. If you're planning all your activities in town, you can easily leave the car in Seattle and walk on the ferry. If you're planning a tour of the island, you'll need wheels. Small inns, dozens of fine restaurants, lots of galleries and shops, island wineries, and a low-key local vibe make Bainbridge Island a fun and restful spot to treat yourself to a splurge.

Part of the Puget Sound American Viticultural Area (AVA), this vineyard grows wine grapes particularly suited for the cool, moist climate - Muller-Thurgau, Madeleine Angevine and others. The winemaker and staff will welcome you in the tasting room, but check the website first for open days and hours. If you like what they're pouring, include a case of wine in your spurge and support the local economy.
