I've been pointing out for years that freedom to travel is a right. But for at least the last decade, the U.S. government has been treating travel as a privilege granted by government.

Late last month, I submitted recommendations to United Nations Human Rights Committee (UNHRC), on behalf of the Identity Project and the Consumer Travel Alliance, for issues related to the right to travel which the UNHRC should raise with the U.S. during this year's required review by the UNHRC of U.S. implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) -- the treaty which explicitly guarantees the right to freedom of movement.
