Top things to do in Utah
Although Utah is known to many outsiders for its awesome outdoor adventures, Utah offers tourists a greater variety than you might think.
LDS Temple Square
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints headquarters is located in Salt Lake City and Temple Square is a major tourist attraction for both members and non-members alike. On this unique and beautifully adorned square, important events in the settling of the West are displayed and taught, and on weekdays visitors can learn about the church from full-time volunteers. On Sundays visitors can listen to the world-famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Other cultural events are regularly scheduled in the tabernacle.
Bonneville Salt Flats
Two hours from downtown Salt Lake City, the Bonneville Salt Flats brings speed lovers from across the world to watch land-speed records be broken several times a year. If you aren’t here during race time, you can still drive on the salt flats with wild abandon; just make sure you get a car wash right after such a drive, otherwise the salt can ruin your car.
Five national parks
Known as the Mighty 5, Utah has five national parks located throughout the state. Every year millions of people visit to hike through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. The red sandstone rocks and stark slot canyons are unique to southern Utah, and will prove an experience unlike any other in the world. Hidden canyons provide opportunities for not just hiking, but also canyoneering and rock climbing through pristine and rugged areas reachable only to the adventurous.
Utah is known for its skiing and any major skier knows about Park City, which is located only 45 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City. Home to many of the 2002 Winter Olympic venues, the winter sports availability is unsurpassed. But summer in Park City is also a great adventure with mountain biking trails, alpine slides, and gondola photo shoots, to mention only a few. And who can mention Park City without highlighting the world-famous Sundance Film Festival.
Utah’s a great place to visit at any time of the year, and there’s plenty to discover for yourself!
