Lyon, France [photos]

By: Craig & Linda Martin

Althouh Lyon is known as the gastronomical capital of France, it has a lot more to offer than just food. Even though the food alone is worth the trip (I treated myself to all the local delicacies when I was there over Christmas), Lyon is a city filled with natural beauty, historical sites, and that wonderful je ne sais quoi that makes most French cities irresistible.

One of the most popular landmarks, St. Jean Cathedral.

There are two rivers that run through Lyon, and both are perfect for catching a cruise, going for a drink at one of the many boat bars, and watching the sunset.

You can find the ferris wheel in Lyon’s main square: Place Bellecour. It’s a great place for photos, and you can get a good view of the Notre-Dame-de-Fourviere.

Inside St. Jean Cathedral.

Lyon is filled with winding streets and stone staircases that take you to the some of the city’s best sights.

One of the many squares where people sit and enjoy their lunch.

Lyon even has Roman ruins. The remains of what used to be a colosseum are free to enter.

From the hills you can see the cathedral, and often the ferris wheel.

Lyon, France [photos] by Taylor McIntyre was originally published on Indie Travel Podcast (find in iTunes). They also have travel books, travel resources and guides to Asia, Europe, Oceania, South America, and more.
