Michael Yessis

Michael is the co-founder and co-editor of Travel Channel Media’s World Hum. Jim Benning and he launched World Hum in 2001, combining a literary approach to travel writing with the power and versatility of new media to create a pioneering travel website. Their blog was among the first travel blogs on the internet, and many of their stories have been honored with Lowell Thomas Awards by the Society of American Travel Writers. More than a dozen World Hum stories have been featured in the Best American Travel Writing anthologies. Since the Travel Channel acquired the site in 2007, he has continued his role in developing the vision and direction of the site. World Hum’s traffic has doubled in each of the last two years. They are currently developing plans to expand World Hum into other platforms. Before joining the Travel Channel, he worked as an editor at several magazines and websites. He was the Destinations Editor at USAToday.com, and the Editor in Chief of Texas and New Mexico Journey Magazines. During the dotcom boom, he wrote and edited for several websites in the San Francisco Bay area and in Los Angeles. Before that, he worked as an editor at Men’s Fitness magazine and covered sports for the Santa Monica Outlook and Daily Breeze newspapers.
