3 Treatments For Effortless On-The-Road Beauty

By: lostgirlsworld

When you’re traveling, you want to spend less time getting dressed and more time exploring your destination—but you still want to look pretty! Check out these three beauty treatments recommended by Yael Halaas M.D.; a board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon in New York City, to help simplify your get-ready routine.

Treatment #1: Laser Hair Removal

Beauty made easy: If you shave your underarms, bikini area, and full legs daily, that probably costs you about 10 minutes. Since you don’t have to shave after laser hair removal, you’ll save more than 60 hours—or 2 ½ days—a year! Plus, you won’t have to lug shaving cream or razors in your suitcase.

How it works: The laser has specific wavelengths of light and uses heat to target dark hair and destroy the follicles without harming your skin. The ideal candidate has dark hair and light skin, since the difference in pigment color makes it easiest for the laser to detect. Dr. Halaas uses the Elite laser, which is most effective for all skin types because it combines different wavelengths. “Be sure to shave before your treatment so that you’re not wasting laser energy on the hair itself, but rather targeting the follicle under the hair’s surface that is responsible for regrowth. And don’t pluck or Nair up to a week before so as not to remove the hair’s root,” says Dr. Halaas. Most people need between four and six treatments to permanently remove hair, and sessions cost about $600 for full-legs (you get cheaper rates with package deals).

Treatment #2: Latisse

Beauty made easy: This medication helps your eyelashes grow long and full so you won’t have to worry about your mascara smudging or bringing eye makeup remover because you won’t even need mascara at all!

How it works: “Latisse is a medication that doctors were actually using to treat glaucoma, and they noticed that patients’ eyelashes were growing longer. Now it’s available as an eyelash-growth treatment sold with a tiny paint brush that you apply on your eyelashes to help them become fuller and longer,” says Dr. Halaas.  A rare side effect is that the pigment in your iris may turn darker if you have green eyes, so it’s safest for blue and brown-eyed girls.

The treatment: Chemical Peel

Beauty made easy: It helps brighten your complexion and lessen breakouts so you can go without foundation and concealer.

How it works: A chemical, such as glycolic acid, is applied to the skin; causes a sun-burn like response; and then the skin sheds the old cells on the top layer as it heals. Chemical peels work to dissolve dead skin cells to reveal brighter skin by lightening dark blotches caused by sun damage, aging, and birth control pills for a more even-toned complexion. By dissolving the top skin layer, chemical peels also help erase fine lines, and further work to ease breakouts by eliminating those dead skin cells that make pores more susceptible to getting clogged with dirt and oil.
