Which is the most quiet place for star gazing and seeing clear starlit night in/near Palo Alto ?
Ahh, I am obsessed with stars but don't really have a great answer. I usually got a good view from the Oval or on the top floor of one of the buildings in the Quad. I think the student observatory is closed off to the public.

Morgan hill and its surroundings near Gilroy are pretty good. So is El Corte open reserve and Castle Rock State Park.
A little closer would be the Dish hill at Stanford. Technically it is closed after sundown but you can sneak in and climb up. you won't be the first.
I love driving up to highway 9, stopping at the summit, where there's a big parking lot. You can see a lot of stars there and it's beautiful. It's not very close to Palo Alto, but you have just about no city lights off 152 West (Hecker Pass). It's really easy to see the sky out there!
