Once known as the Royal Capital, Lahaina is the largest town on West Maui and the gateway to other popular tourist destinations. Attractions of all kinds abound, so there is something for every age and every interest. The PGA Mercedes Benz Championship is held here every January and the Maui Invitational is one of the top competitions in college basketball. Choose a cozy bed and breakfast or a fully furnished villa for the duration of your stay. Taste the island cuisine at the numerous restaurants and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.

Children will love spending the day at Kaanapali Beach, which is lined with hotels and restaurants. You only have to walk from your lodgings to be right on the sand. This beach is one of the best in Hawaii for its wide range of watersports. Snorkeling, swimming, surfing and scuba diving are the top rated activities. Although the views from the beach are astounding, you just have to wait until the sun goes down to see a sunset that you won’t experience in any other place.

The little ones will really delight in riding the Lahaina-Kaanapali Sugar Cane Train. This train will take you on the six-mile ride from Lahaina to other popular destinations. On the way the train crosses a 325-foot wooden bridge from which you have a panoramic view of the West Maui Mountains and other islands of Hawaii. You may even see some humpback whales playing offshore if you are visiting between December and April. Along the way, you can enjoy Hawaiian entertainment and the guide will point out sites of interest.

Make sure to check out a Lahaina Travel Guide for more advice and read a Hawaii Travel Guide written by international authors to prepare for your trip!
