One Day in Round Rock, Texas

Round Rock started out as a small suburb of Austin, but through the years it has turned into a beautiful booming city of its own. My favorite thing to do in Round Rock was eat. There were several excellent restaurants in town. There was also golf, shopping, and some parks worth hiking. More than eight hundred acres of open space, affordable housing and top schools make it an attractive place to families. I had fun trying to get in as many restaurants as I could in the short amount of time I was visiting.

The Round Rock Amphitheater is the perfect place to see an outdoor concert. I happened to be here in the summer when there was a free concert series going on. After I ate dinner, it was a short walk to the amphitheater. The grounds were beautiful. I sat on the grassy hill and enjoyed the night air with the live music. It was so re... More >

I recommend checking ahead either on the city of Round Rock website, or by calling the Parks and Recreation Department, to see what the schedule is.
Origami Restaurant in Round Rock had excellent sushi. I highly recommend this place for any sushi lover. I love the way they incorporate jalapeno peppers into the sushi rolls. Everything I tried was delicious, but some of my favorites were the Round Rock Roll (a rock and roll with a pickled jalapeno), the Tiger Eye Roll (with a fresh jalapeno and spicy mustard sauce), and the Texas Roll (spicy salmon and chili sauce). If you love Japanese cuisine, be sure to go out of your way to eat at Origami when you visit Round Rock.
I highly recommend this place for any sushi lover.
The Louisiana Longhorn Caf is an authentic Cajun restaurant in Round Rock. The owners are from Louisiana and claim to be using recipes recreated from what they ate growing up. I was caught off guard by the alligator being on the menu, as alligator is not a common dish where I grew up, nor have I ever tried it. But, what I did eat was delicious. I highly recommend the deep fried onion and jalapeno strips and the crawfish bisque, both of which are on the appetizers menu. For dinner I ate the fish tacos, made with blackened tilapia and smoked corn Pico de Gallo, and was very pleased with them. Overall, it was a surprisingly great Cajun menu and decent prices.
I went to the Juarez Mexican Bakery in Round Rock for breakfast on the recommendation of the front desk clerk at my hotel and I was very pleased. The breakfast tacos were possibly the best I have ever had in my life. I can understand why it is such a popular place with the locals. I knew it was popular from the moment I got there, because the line was huge. It was so big, I almost changed my mind and went somewhere else. But, the line seemed to move pretty fast, and Im definitely happy that I waited it out. Im sure that lunch is just as delicious, but after eating here, I was told by several locals that Juarez Bakery is also their favorite place for breakfast in town.

I would stay again at the Country Inn and Suites in Round Rock based on the rates alone. I found them to be much more affordable than any other hotel that I priced in the Austin area. The low prices made me even more pleasantly surprised at all the perks that they offer, like the free hot cookies and coffee every evening in the lobby. Or the free bottles of water in the rooms. The free breakfast was a notch above what you usually get at other hotels, too. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel.
