One Day in Rockwall, Texas

Rockwall is an upscale suburb of Dallas. It is a very picturesque location right on the east shore of Lake Ray Hubbard with a great view of the Dallas skyline. It's not really the kind of city that normally attracts tourists, but it is a great place for shopping and fine dining with fantastic views of the lake and the city. Be warned, that prices here can be kind of high. If you are on a budget or have any kids with you, Rockwall is probably not what you are looking for.

The hotel is definitely upscale with many luxuries like a poolside bar, internet caf and library. It was great to take a stroll along the boardwalk at sunset or listen to a concert at the outdoor amphitheatre on the waterfront. From the boardwalk you can also take a fishing excursion or rent a boat or jet-ski for the day. This is a lovely place to stay. Be warned, however, that it is pricey.

We sat by a giant picture window and had a fantastic view of the sunset over the lake and the Dallas skyline. It was gorgeous. The menu includes an impressive array of seafood choices that I was thrilled with. We had the polenta crusted calamari for an appetizer and loved it. For entrees, one of us ordered the pretzel crusted rainbow trout and the other got the Texas catfish. They were both very yummy. I highly recommend this upscale restaurant.
They are constantly running around to keep up with everybody.

Gloria's Restaurant in Rockwall has a great menu featuring Mexican, Tex-Mex and seafood. Its popularity was made apparent on our visit by the long wait to be seated. We waited almost forty minutes. I don't know if that's a typical wait time or if it was just our timing. The service once we were seated was fabulous, as were the food and drinks. I don't know if that's a typical wait time or if it was just our timing. The service once we were seated was fabulous, as were the food and drinks. I thoroughly enjoyed the ceviche trio appetizer, which included orange roughy, scallops, and shrimp cocktail. Then for dinner, I ordered the shrimp enchiladas which were delightful. I definitely recommend having a meal at Gloria's.
Route 66 Classic Diner is my favorite place for breakfast in Rockwall, hands down. It is a very busy place and you might end up waiting longer than you would like for a table and for your food. But it is worth it. The servers do a great job. They are constantly running around to keep up with everybody. The menu is exactly what you... More >

But it is worth it. The servers do a great job. They are constantly running around to keep up with everybody. The menu is exactly what you would expect from a place that calls itself "Classic Diner" and you really can't make a bad choice. One of my favorites is the Big 8 Special, featuring two pancakes, two eggs, two bacon strips and two sausage links.
The dcor was lovely and reminded me of a mountain lodge.
