One Day in Humble, Texas

Humble is a suburb in the Houston metro area. It doesn't really have much in the way of tourism, but it does have some enjoyable attractions and several great restaurants. This small city is very conveniently located right next to the George Bush Airport making it appealing for business travelers. There are also a few popular golf courses in town. If you are visiting the Houston area at all it can make sense to stay in Humble. You can find reasonable hotel rates and it is very easy to get to downtown Houston.

Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Garden in Humble Texas is a very lovely place. There are trails that are very well kept and clean so it is easy to get around. There are so many different kinds of plants to see that I was fascinated for hours. I went during summer and it was beautiful, but I imagine it is even more so during spring when everything is in bloom. One of my favorite spots was the water lily pond because I found it very calming. I also enjoyed the wind sculptures. I definitely recommend taking a nature walk here when you are in Humble.

At Cypress Trails Horseback Riding Center, you can ride a horse on some of the best trails in Texas no matter what your skill level, and at a very reasonable rate. They charged only forty dollars for a one hour long ride. I am not an experienced horse rider at all, but our guide was very helpful and patient and really made the ride enjoyable. The terrain and scenery of the trail alongside Cypress Creek was simply gorgeous. Overall, it was a ton of fun and I would definitely do it again.

The Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Center is a great place to learn first hand about the native plants and wildlife around Houston. The park is located on a gorgeous three hundred acres with over five miles of trails and boardwalks that work their way through woods and across white sandy banks of the creek. The nature center has a ton of cool exhibits and activities. One of my favorites was the exhibit of live snakes native to the Harris County area. I also enjoyed walking through the Redbud Hill Homestead, which is a replica of a Texas settler homestead from the 1830's.

Located right on Main Street in the heart of downtown Humble, the Humble Museum has a very interesting collection of artifacts and displays representing the local history and heritage. The oil and cattle industries are well highlighted, as are local churches and early settler life. Also operated by the museum, but located in a separate building, is the McKay Medical Clinic. I was disappointed to learn, however, that the clinic was shown by appointment only, so I was not able to see it. Overall, the museum was kind of small compared to other museums, but still impressed me.

I hate having to wander far from my hotel for every meal. The indoor pool and Jacuzzi were kept clean and maintained. Overall, it was a very comfortable place to stay and I would definitely go here again any time I come back to the Houston area.

I was a little skeptical when I saw the outside of the Railroad Cafe in Humble, Texas because it didn't look like much. But I had heard very good things about the place and was excited to try the Italian food they offer. The atmosphere and the service can't be beat. It is a very quaint building. The peacefulness inside made me think it would be a great place for a romantic date. Sadly, I was by myself this time, but still loved it. The food was decent, although as far as Italian food goes, it was not the best I have had. I also thought the prices were a little high for what you get. All this considered, it is probably the best Italian place in this neighborhood and I would return.
