Weekend Getaway to Providence

We like to visit Providence for weekend getaways because it is not far from our home in suburban Boston and it offers all kinds of fun. There are plenty of choices for a lazy afternoon and it is especially terrific for a special night out on the town. Here are suggestions for planning a weekend escape in Providence for yourself.

It is located right near the water within walking distance to the river with Brown University across the way. If you request a high enough floor facing the river, you will be rewarded with the views. Views are even better from above if you have access to a water view via your hotel, or from the upper levels of Providence Place.
The Rhode Island School of Design has an incredible museum collecting all things art presented in a rambling series of interconnected buildings that is a delight to wander through. Admission is free on Sundays when arriving before 1PM. I love the variety from Paul Revere silver to Frank Lloyd Wright furniture and Renoir paintings. Modern sits next to classic, and all tastes are accommodated along the way.
