Make use of the public transportation! Everything you would want to see is accessible by metro and/or bus. This way you can avoid traffic and the hassle of parking in a city whose space for motorized vehicles is limited. Moreover, an expired meter could cost you upwards of 78 euro! You can buy tickets for individual journeys on the metro for about 1 euro, or an all-day pass for just 8 euro. These metro tickets are also accepted on all bus routes in Barcelona. More

Are you looking for a place to rent gear or buy gear? If it's the latter, I'd direct you to Bivouac Outdoor on Columbo st. I got new hiking boots, sunglasses, and a jacket there for a trip to Fiordland. The gear held up, and is still going strong! More

Fitzroy has a fun, funky bohemian atmosphere with lots of coffee shops, vintage clothing stores, and neat art galleries. Brunswick St. and Smith St. are the two areas you want to explore for great shopping, dining, and people watching. Oh, and if you're on Brunswick in the morning, stop in at Babka and get the cheese blintzes. A delicious way to start the day! More

Oregon has a lot of indoor playgrounds due to their long rainy season. For a something that is great for both of you I would recommend Munchkin Playland on West Union Road. This clever establishment is actually a coffee shop with an indoor playground. You can sip your soy latte while you watch your little one have a ball. More

You could try Barton Springs Pool or Deep Eddy Pool. Both of these have icy cold spring fed water that helps cool you down, even on the hottest days. They are outdoors, of course. But, set yourself up under a leafy pecan tree and then just go back and forth between the refreshing water and the shade! More

  • Victoria Coddington

Victoria Coddington asked a Question about Encinitas, CA

    August 8 at 09:42 PM

The San Diego Botanic Garden is actually in Encinitas, and is really a worthwhile visit. Unfortunately, your dogs won't be allowed, but maybe your in-laws can babysit for a few hours? Otherwise, there's some great shopping in Encinitas, like Ducky Waddle's Emporium and the Seaside Bazaar on weekends (where the puppies will be welcome!).

Joe Silva asked a Question about San Diego, CA

    August 6 at 03:50 PM

It seems odd to me that a beach city like San Diego has such a thriving antiques scene, but there you have it! Ocean Beach definitely has the highest concentration of stores, but there are lots of stores in other places, like India Street Antiques or Antiques on Kettner. Happy bargainhunting! More
