One Day in State College, PA

Anyone who has spent any amount of time in State College emerges as a die-hard fan, and I never knew why. After meeting my college roommate here for a weekend I see its appeal. The town has some very unique shops that you can't find anywhere else. On top of that, it has Penn State and its creamery. The town is cute, there is plenty to do, and it always has more to explore.

Along the limestone corridors, stalagmites, stalactites, flowstone cascades and draperies decorate the interior rooms, while underwater, trout swim and jump for feed! The farm and wildlife tour is a guided 90-minute motorized tour over 1,500 acres of Penn's Cave forests and fields which have been carefully preserved as a natural habitat for birds, plants, and animals. North American animals, such as bears, wolves, elk, deer, bobcats, bison, longhorn cattle, mustangs as well as the Penn's Cave Icon, the cougar, are seen, along with the African adventure museum. The tours are not only enjoyable and very entertaining, but they are also very informative and educational

The Atherton Hotel, located in the heart of downtown State College, offers a unique lodging experience. You can enjoy the convenience of walking to any downtown shops or restaurants plus any Penn State University campus landmarks, sporting events or concerts. Nestled in the heart of beautiful Central Pennsylvania, The Atherton Hotel is a luxury hotel that is truly one of a kind. Not only do they have a parking garage which makes this a very convenient place to stay, but they also have a restaurant in the hotel, which makes dining a breeze. If you are looking for a bit more adventure, then it's only steps away to the next closest restaurant or bistro. While in the area I had a chance to try breakfast at the Tarragon Restaurant, located in the hotel, and it was delicious and reasonable priced.
They have food that adults and children would enjoy, but the evening hours get loud, so I wouldn't suggest bringing kids here for a later evening dinner.

When looking through the menu there are a plethora of options to choose from from seafood to meet from spicy to tame.
If you love ice cream even half as much as I do, you MUST visit the Penn State Creamery. The line was out the door when I visited here, but it was well worth the wait. Flavor varieties out the wazoo, and huge portions make this a must visit (and eat)!
Casual setting to enjoy some appetizer or light entrees and a few good drinks! They have food that adults and children would enjoy, but the evening hours get loud, so I wouldn't suggest bringing kids here for a later evening dinner.

Great food, reasonable prices, fun atmosphere . . . what else can you ask you? Althought it's a chain, I love it because it has something for everyone. More
