Harrisburg Vacations, Tourism & Travel Information

Overview

Harrisburg is located along the Susquehanna River and makes particularly good use of the waterfront. The city's downtown area is known to be incredibly beautiful as well. The capitol building was dedicated by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906, who declared it "the handsomest building” he ever saw. Though Harrisburg is less well known than Gettysburg for Civil War tourism, battles from the war reached into Harrisburg's suburbs, then Camp Hill. Memorials, trails and museums still commemorate that history today. Like most of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg is steeped in scenic beauty and the numerous nature preserves are fun ways for the entire family to experience the great outdoors.
