One Day in Cincinnati

A day in Cincinnati for me will include some baseball lore, some time on the river, and fun on the levee. This southern Ohio city is smaller than it seems but connected at the hip with neighboring Covington and Newport, Kentucky, it packs a punch when you put it all together.

If I'm not able to get a good room by the river, I'm going to Drury where I'll get a great room with a lot of freebies. Hot breakfast, lite dinner, popcorn, soda, cocktails, beer, wine, long distance, wifi, ethernet...all free. Around $100 per night, upgrade to a nice suite for just a little more.
Before he worked his magic on the Brooklyn Bridge, John A. Roebling built this masterpiece in 1866. Now a private bridge, the public can walk across when it is not booked for an event. The best way to walk across the river. Free.

On the riverfront behind Great American Ballpark is this plaza with a giant steamboat paddlewheel mounted on two columns. The pipes underneath emit steam while speakers play scenes from the riverboats as pedestrians walk by. Free.
Adjacent to the Great American Ballpark, this museum highlights Reds history, including such controversial figures as Pete Rose and Marge Schott. If there's a day game, I'm buying a cheap ticket and enjoying the game with a great hot dog and beer. $10 for adults.
If I have kids, I'm making a stop here. Sealife from around the world in millions of gallons of water. Conveniently located in the Levee center. $22 for adults, $15 for kids.

And I'm finishing the day with bangers and mash. Kids will love it here, it's like being in a medieval castle. If it's cool, try to get a table near one of their big fireplaces. Have a Smithwick's or Guiness and just relax by the river. Around $20 per person. More
