Our Take on Washington, North Carolina

The first town in the United States named for General George Washington, Washington, North Carolina was named in 1775, prior to his becoming president. The town is located on the Pamlico and Tar rivers in the inland coastal region of North Carolina.

Washington takes advantage of its riverfront location with the North Carolina Estuarium, which offers visitors a look at the importance of the areas rivers and sounds. This kid friendly exhibit also features river tours, a can’t-miss part of any family vacation.
