Ocracoke Vacations, Tourism & Travel Information

Our Take on Ocracoke, North Carolina

Ocracoke, North Carolina, Outer Banks, is accessible only by sea and air, but getting there is part of the fun. As your ferry leaves the mainland, headed for an island vacation, you can feel your troubles washing away with the waves.

Things to do in Ocracoke include a visit to the 1823 Ocracoke Lighthouse, shopping in art galleries, a visit to Teach’s Hole Blackbeard exhibit, the Ocracoke Preservation Society or just relaxing on the beach, where you might see wild horses munching sea oats by the seashore.

The town specializes in cozy and quaint, with bicycles often taking the place of cars. Many of the accommodations, also cozy and quaint, cater to romantic getaways. Romantic restaurants can also be found sprinkled amongs the shops near the water.

But Ocracoke isn’t just for couples. It’s a great place for a family vacation. What kid wouldn’t want to stay at Blackbeard’s Lodge, after learning all about the pirate who spent time on Ocracoke at Teach’s Hole. Or rent a kayak and paddle around the water, pretending to be a pirate yourself.

Quiet, historic Ocracoke offers something for the pirate and the romantic in everyone.
