Once the country estate of John Ellison, a privileged landowner, the Knox Headquarters was occupied during the end of the Revolutionary War by Major General Horatio Gates. Today, the site is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day and for some special events during the holidays. Families can see the original tools used to make cloth, try on a variety of reproduction 18th century clothing, and watch demonstrations of open-fire cooking. Ticket prices and tours are offered in conjunction with the nearby New Windsor Cantonment historic site. Recommended for children 5 and older.
