While the tourists are staying at the Marriott and Hilton in Times Square, New Yorkers are stopping by the Roosevelt for a drink at the hotel bar. This hotel is beautiful but understated and is in the middle of a comeback. It's an authentic New York hotel which is hard to find these days! The Roosevelt offers every amenity you could need and the rooms are as magnificent as the lobby.
Some New Yorkers prefer Madison Square Park to Central Park for its lack of tourists and its less overwhelming allure. Take the kids to the playground, enjoy art installations throughout the park, and if you must, wait in line for delicious Shake Shack (here's a tip: if you only get ice cream, you can get in the faster line!)
It's not as expensive as some of the other frozen yogurt places and the flavors taste 10 times better.
Inexpensive good Mexican food and $3 frozen margaritas are the ingredients that make a very happy New Yorker. Great for families or a fun night out without the kids. Festive, fun and yummy.

This is the most fun you can have while waiting in line to pay for ice cream. 16 Handles offers 16 different frozen yogurt flavors that you dispense yourself, you then move through the line to the toppings area which offers any topping you could ever want on your frozen yogurt. It's not as expensive as some of the other frozen yogurt places and the flavors taste 10 times better. It doesn't taste like it's healthier for you but it is! And it's fun! It's a hot spot for NYU students and other ice cream loving New Yorkers.
This is obvious but not everyone knows about the beautiful rooftop garden at the top of the Met. You could go to the Met simply for the rooftop garden and be satisfied because there are always interesting sculpture exhibits going on up there and the views are spectacular. This is obvious but not everyone knows about the beautiful rooftop garden at the top of the Met. You could go to the Met simply for the rooftop garden and be satisfied because there are always interesting sculpture exhibits going on up there and the views are spectacular. It's much better than waiting in line for the Empire State building, or the Top of the Rock. Plus it's cheaper; admission to the Met is "pay what you wish"!
After you're done, wander the streets of the Lower East Side to get a real feel of old New York.
With every drink you buy here, you get a free mini pie of pizza... good pizza. You can get a beer and dinner here for $5! Trivia night is on Wednesdays for some extra fun.
Katz's deli has been a weekend tradition of New Yorkers for decades. Eat the best knishes and hot dogs amongst hungry locals and deli food fans from around the world. After you're done, wander the streets of the Lower East Side to get a real feel of old New York. It doesn't get more authentic than this.
