One Day in Independence, Missouri

You can't ignore history in this town near Kansas City. Our 33rd president lived here and the Mormon Church has some of its most sacred ground here. Take a day to soak it in, have some great local barbecue, and then shop in one of the country's largest sporting goods stores.

Freeway accessible, close to Independence attractions, and an easy drive to everything else. An indoor pool and a breakfast buffet also come in handy. Large, clean rooms starting at around $85.

Free.
See his courtroom and office here in the main square, across from the ice cream shop that a younger Harry had his first job at.
A branch of my favorite KC barbecue is here in Independence. Go for the great smoky ribs and burnt-ends sandwiches. Stay for the friendly service. Around $10 per person.
Before he was a president or senator, Harry S. Truman was a judge. See his courtroom and office here in the main square, across from the ice cream shop that a younger Harry had his first job at. $2 for adults, a dollar for kids.
