Minnesota's capitol city is one of our favorite destinations. With a wide variety of museums, a trip to St. Paul is always bound to be both interesting and fun.

Located in an office-park area of St. Paul, this hotel is found in an old trainyard. The model railroad museum at Bandana Square is in another section of the building, and it's only a few minutes' drive to Como Park as well as downtown museums and attractions.
It's fun! With four floors of hands-on exhibits plus an outdoor seasonal studio, it's a kid's delight. Just leave the strollers behind if you can, because the elevators are the slowest in the city.
Adults will enjoy the history here, and kids will like the interactive exhibits, but most of all they'll like climbing in Grainland, a climb-and-play structure that simulates a grain elevator.

Stroll through rail cars from days gone by. On weekends, take a short train ride. Kids can play with wooden train setups or shop in the train-themed store. Santa's Train Shop in December is the best time to visit.
Model railroad enthusiasts young and old will enjoy this large train setup that portrays the Twin Cities. Pulling the kids away from the model trains or the Thomas sets may be hard, though.

Better for older kids than toddlers, there's a lot to do at this interactive science museum. Don't miss the mummy, and be sure to learn why the big red chimes play louder and faster at some times than at others.

Learn how the rich lived in the early days of St. Paul in this mansion of railroad magnate James J Hill. If you can, try to catch one of the "nooks and crannies" tours that will allow you to see even more corners of this historic home, just a few blocks from the State Capitol and Minnesota History Center.
