This downtown hotel is with easy walking distance of the Metrodome and Mill City Museum, and many other downtown attractions can be accessed by walking through the heated skyways. (It took us about 20 minutes to walk to Target Center from the hotel.) The tasty free breakfast has great variety, and free cookies upon checkin were hits with the kids.
Mill City Museum embraces Minneapolis' past as a flour milling center. The museum sits on the site of the ruins of the Washburn A Mill. Its hands-on activities and Flour Tower will be popular with both adults and children.
Enjoy a concert at the Lake Harriet Bandshell, or catch a streetcar ride at the Linden Hills station.
Zip up to the top of the Foshay Tower, now home to the W Hotel, which is no longer Minneapolis' tallest building, but nonetheless offers stunning views of the city from its observation deck.
Just outside Mill City Museum, take a stroll across the historic Stone Arch Bridge and maybe have lunch in St. Anthony Main on the other side, or walk a few more blocks to the Ard Godfrey House, Minneapolis' oldest remaining home.
Visit the Minneapolis Institute of Arts on one of its free monthly family days, where kids will enjoy a variety of the arts built around a special theme. Or take in a play at the Children's Theatre Company, which shares its home with the Art Institute.
