Ann Arbor Weekend on a Budget!

Ann Arbor is the epitome of a quaint college town, with great food, amazing museums and a bustling campus that spills out into the winding streets of A Squared (as the locals call it). I travel there at least once a year with my family for a football game or the summer art fair. An hour from Detroit but a world away from the big city, it has charming shops and a football stadium that holds the world's largest crowd watching NCAA football every Saturday during the season. Directions are given with references to local landmarks - North Campus, South Campus and the Big House so be sure to carry a map as you wander!

Just a quick bus ride North to campus, the Holiday Inn Express has suites to accommodate groups of any size and is in a great location to get out and about in Ann Arbor. Breakfast is included with your stay, and there is a pool for the kids to relax in after a long day exploring the town. A stone's throw from the football stadium and t... More >

Split by the Huron River, the Arboretum is open until sunset and houses plants from the 1930's and on.
With multiple buildings housing different collections and rotating exhibits, the U of M's art museum has something for the even the pickiest critic. Home to a spectacular modern wing housing collections of all mediums, and an enormous photography and an impressive print and drawing exhibit with Picasso's and Rembrandt's, there is no finer free art museum in the United States. The African art collection is particularly interesting, with over 1000 pieces to take in.
Blimpburger is an Ann Arbor institution, and you had better know what you want on your burger before you get in line, or you risk the wrath of the line cook! Blimpburger is an Ann Arbor institution, and you had better know what you want on your burger before you get in line, or you risk the wrath of the line cook! As you walk down the line you can pick the number of patties, select enormous amount of toppings (try a fried egg!) and as that comes together you must try to choose between their famous onion rings or fried veggies - even cauliflower. There are not many seats but the patio is perfect on a warm day. Featured on Food Network, Blimpyburger is where U of M students come on their 21st birthday for a 21 patty burger, although we'd recommend sticking with one or two.
Although U of M students tell tall tales of using the Arborteum as a sledding venue after big snow storms, the main (and recommended) attraction is the gorgeous plants, flowers and trees that cover 123 acres of Central Campus. I am an attorney married to an attorney, which means my house is full of boring books & equally boring discussions. To make up for the general lack of creativity I blog, I cook & I make fun of the legal profession at every available opportunity. Unless of course I’m feeling sassy and then I’ll offer unsolicited advice on being a law student or a lawyer or the spouse of a lawyer. My taste in movies is questionable, my taste in music more-so. I monogram everything. It is just how I do things. Our household consists of me, B (my husband) and Rhett Butler, our dog. Please enjoy our fur child who is clearly a genius. Finally, I hate tomatoes. And mushroooms.
