A Day's Worth of Fun In Waltham, MA

I have both lived and worked in Waltham. If you find yourself in MetroWest Boston for a day and need something to do, Waltham has a variety of options. Way more than just an exit on bustling Route 128, pull off the highway and explore.

Governor's mansions are always fanciful. Sweeping staircases and pristine grounds. Gore Place does not disappoint. History buffs and architecture fans will revel in the Federal style building and the history from Gore's political career during and after the American Revolution. Kids will have fun here too with the farm animals and specialized programs just for them.
While the historic Lyman Estate is open for tours by appointment only due to its active use for functions, their greenhouses are open to the public for free on a daily basis. Not only can you view gorgeous orchids and exotic species, but you can purchase plants to take a piece of fine country living with you.

Oh sure. Waltham is known for its Restaurant Row along Moody Street. You can find almost any type of cuisine you like for a night out. But if you are looking for a lunchtime treat, head over to Carl's for one of the most delicious, massive, messiest cheesesteaks north of Philly.
Located in America's oldest factory, this inspiring museum shares the history of innovation and encourages visitors of all ages to learn about putting their ideas into action. Learn about Waltham's famed watch making history and see exhibits of modern ideas in motion.
If you need a place to stay the night, the Westin is the big glass hotel perched up on the hill on Rte. 128. It looks impressive while driving by. It is impressive if you stop in for a visit. Views can actually be quite scenic and the amenities are high quality. The indoor pool is a nice perk along with on-site dining.

She’s had a job in the real world crunching numbers for a Financial Planner for 17 years but shares her photography and thoughts about books, music, movies, travel and the Red Sox on The Bumbles Blog in a joint venture with her husband.
