As a kid in North Dakota, a weekend in Winnipeg was our big-city getaway. Now, I'm passing on the tradition by sharing Winnipeg's history and culture with my own children.

The Children's Museum is fun for kids with both indoor and outdoor hands-on exhibits. It's in the popular "Forks" area of Winnipeg where restaurants, shops, and the waterfront are also highlighted.
This massive park is the home to many gardens, including my favorite "English Garden." Stop in the pavilion or see a cricket game outside, enjoy a picnic, see the flowers in the conservatory, or take a small-gauge train ride around the park.

Located in Assiniboine Park, this zoo will delight animal lovers young and old.
One of the nicest beaches we've ever been to; the white sand and water meeting sky will make you think you're near an ocean. About an hour's drive north of Winnipeg.
