Our Take on Stonington, Maine

There are plenty of things to do in Stonington, Maine, whether you’re planning a romantic getaway or a fun family trip.  A uniquely unspoiled fishing village, Stonington offers Maine charm with boutiques, restaurants, historic homes that look like they could be right out of a travel guide.

If it’s just the two of you, consider the Captain Swift Inn where you can enjoy relaxing in front of your room’s gas fireplace. You could travel out to sea on an island tour, then indulge in a romantic dinner at the Maritime Café. Stonington offers a variety of cultural events including films and performances at the Stonington Opera House, and the espresso bar at the Inn on the Harbor is a Stonington favorite.

Kids will enjoy exploring on bikes or in sea kayaks, or, for the more adventurous, a ‘flightseeing’ trip by plane with Penobscot Island air.  There are plenty of great accommodations for families in Stonington, such as Boyce’s Motel or the pet-friendly Old Quarry Campground. You may even consider renting a cottage where you can cook lobsters in the pot while looking at beautiful views.   No matter what kind of trip you’re planning, Stonington has something in store for you.
