One Day in Kittery, Maine

Kittery, Maine is just about an hour from my home in suburban Boston, and it's a great getaway for a day trip or a weekend away. Located right on the waterfront, it offers some wonderful outlet shopping, outdoor activities, and delicious food. If you are visiting for just a day or an overnight, you'll need to be strategic with your time so that you can maximize your trip!

Located right in Kittery, and offering beautiful bed and breakfast accommodations, the Portsmouth Harbor Inn is a great place to spend the night if you are extended your day trip to an overnight. Most of the hotels in Kittery are lower-end chain hotels, so this is a nice alternative.

Your tour guide, the Captain, a former US Coast Guard Captain, has lots of experience and will show you the beautiful Maine coast on the 80 minute tour.
Kittery has some of the best outlet shopping around, so if you visit for the day, you absolutely have to check out the outlets. The only negative is that there is sales tax in Maine (unlike the bordering New Hampshire). But, you'll find some great places here that you won't find elsewhere.
While the outlets are primarily chain stores, the Kittery Trading Post is true Maine. You'll find all sorts of eclectic and quaint items here, and it's definitely a must do.
If visiting in the warmer weather (May through October), Captain & Patty's is a great way to get a tour of nearby lighthouses and forts. Your tour guide, the Captain, a former US Coast Guard Captain, has lots of experience and will show you the beautiful Maine coast on the 80 minute tour.
