OUR TAKE ON EDGECOMB

Edgecomb, Maine is right on the edge of the river. North of Boothbay, it sits on a sharp peninsula formed by the Sheepscot and Damariscotta Rivers. The town is about 20 square miles and is filled with deep rocky gorges and rolling hills. About 1100 people live in Edgecomb, so it you want to have a quiet getaway, this is the place for you!

To get a sense of days gone by, you’ll probably want to visit Ft. Edgecomb, which was built as a northern garrison during the War of 1812. The intention was to protect Wiscasset, the most important shipping center north of Boston. It also housed British prisoners of war. On Davis Island, Fort Edgecomb is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The original fort, at the highest point on the banks of the Sheepscot River, is open between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

When you visit, check out the local romantic getaways, either in or near to Edgecomb. Try the Cod Cove Inn. Each room is tastefully and not overly decorated, and the breakfasts are “to live for.”  Sheepscot River Inn offers 10 rooms and 15 shorefront cottages, all with a grand view of the harbor.
