OUR TAKE ON BRUNSWICK
Brunswick, Maine is a coastal town with a rich naval history. It is home of the U.S. Naval Air Station and is conveniently located just 22 miles northeast of Portland. Surround by Androscoggin River to the north and Casco Bay to the south, there is water, water everywhere for sightseeing and boating purposes! There are lots of things to do, around the water or not.
Outdoor enthusiasts will want to head for Wolf’s Neck Woods State Park, just eight miles outside of city limits. It’s great for casual hiking along the rugged coastline, and at low tide you can stroll along the beach.
Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of the famed Uncle Tom’s Cabin, lived in Brunswick while writing the book. Her inspiration to write came as she sat in a service at First Parish Church. Her vision of a slave dying laid the groundwork for the antislavery movement in America.
For romantic getaways, Captain Daniel Stone Inn is a Federal Style home built by a retired U.S. Navy captain in the early 1800s. The view is breathtaking, and the feel of Old Maine is unmistakable. There are other accommodations in Brunswick, which makes it great for family vacations as well.
