Bar Harbor Maine Weekend With Kids

Picturesque Bar Harbor, along the northern coast of Maine, is a great vacation destination to take the kids. Turn recreational activities into educational experiences without them even realizing it! Kayak in the ocean, go whale watching, and cut loose in Acadia National Park. If you're looking for a great weekend getaway with the kids, take a look at these recommendations.

The Harborside Hotel is a fantastic place to stay with the kids. The outdoor heated pool is fantastic, and available family packages include entertaining local itineraries. On-site dining is plentiful, and the hotel is within walking distance of all of the amenities that the village of Bar Harbor has to offer.

Fantastic lobster (and lobster rolls!), fantastic steamers (steamed clams), and incredible blueberry pie made from local wild blueberries! It's off the beaten path, so not quite as crowded as some of the in-town establishments can be.
When the tide goes out, the trail from Bar Harbor out to Bar Island is revealed. Kids will love exploring around the island, and looking for creatures and shells in the tidal pools. Just make sure you make your way back across before the tide comes in!
No trip to Bar Harbor is complete without a visit to Acadia National Park. Explore the carriage trails, clamber around at the top of Cadillac Mountain, gasp at the fury of the ocean at Thunder Hole. You can drive the loop road in a day, but plan for a few days to really explore this national treasure!
