New Orleans Weekend with Kids

New Orleans is not well-known as a destination to bring the whole family, but when you look closer, there's tons of things for kids to enjoy in the Crescent City. Back in the day, my parents (mistakenly) took me and my sister down Bourbon Street during the daytime. Unfortunately for them, this was back in the time when pictures lined the windows of the "adult" clubs letting visitors know what was inside, but those are the times of the past. Now, it's safe to bring the kids along on the DAYtime tours of the city.

Check out the local animals of Louisiana without fearing for your life. Gators are aplenty at the "boutique" zoo near downtown New Orleans. Audubon educators are on staff and present to teach kids about all of the animals on exhibit.

30,000 square feet of fun to explore indoors at the Children's Museum is sure to wear the kids out. Local industries are on exhibit for children to learn about science in Louisiana.

Take the kids on a tour of the real New Orleans, past and present. The walking tour of the above-ground crypts at the cemetery and history of Jackson Square is more than just a typical history lesson. It's interactive, interesting, and kid-friendly.
The best (and most family-friendly) parts of Mardi Gras are on display inside the museum on the edge of New Orleans. Included in the price of admission is the classic King Cake which the kids will love, and a cup of coffee that the parents will enjoy. Kids will be enamored with the costumes on display.
