24 Hours In The Quad Cities

The Quad Cities is actually four towns in two different states: Bettendorf, Iowa; Davenport, Iowa; Moline, Illinois; and Rock Island, Illinois. The Quad Cities is a vibrant community straddling the Mississippi River in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. This is the only place where the Mississippi River actually flows from East to West instead of North and South. As you would expect, there are many bridges connecting the four towns across the rushing waters. You'll also find a vibrant cultural scene and a growing economy along the banks of the Mississippi River in the Quad Cities.

This is where I developed my love for Thai food, specifically glass noodles. The drunken noodles are pretty good, too. In fact, everything on the menu seems to be prepared perfectly and at a great price! There are often coupons in the local paper, also. This is a popular restaurant for people who work nearby, so you may need to call ahead or wait a little while for a table during peak hours. You can place a carry out order as well.
OK, not everyone, but this is still a really cool place to look around.

Who doesn't love small arms? OK, not everyone, but this is still a really cool place to look around. This is the largest government-owned arsenal, which kind of makes you wonder who else owns really large arsenals. The Rock Island Arsenal is located on an island in the Mississippi River. In addition to weapons, you can also see World War I and II era tanks and other memorabilia. You'll also see lots and lots of weapons of all shapes and sizes, including rocket launchers and nuclear artillery shells.

Deere - Wiman House & Butterworth Center
These are two historic homes located in the Overlook Historic Neighborhood of Moline. They were once home to the John Deere family, a name that is significant in both Iowa and Illinois. These are two historic homes located in the Overlook Historic Neighborhood of Moline. They were once home to the John Deere family, a name that is significant in both Iowa and Illinois. John Deere remains a major employer in the area. The homes themselves are filled with artifacts from the early 1900s and the gardens are beautifully maintained. During the summer, you can attend free outdoor concerts on the lawn.

Quad City River Bandits
If you visit during the summer, spend an afternoon or early evening watching a baseball game and cheering for the home team, the Quad City River Bandits. This is the minor league team of the Minnesota Twins and an inexpensive source of entertainment for families. The stadium is located in Davenport.

Penguins Comedy Club and Sports Club
End the day by taking in a show at the Penguins Comedy Club. The headliners here range from local favorites to national stars on the morning radio circuit. Even if the act isn't great you can enjoy a drink and a bite to eat from the full bar and grill. Call ahead for reservations, especially when bigger names come to town. More
