Do you know about Things to Do in Grand Isle? Tell us about it!.Grand Isle, Louisiana is a small community that faces the Gulf of Mexico. The primary industries are in the oilfields and in seafood. But during summers, the whole community of roughly 1,500 people becomes inundated with more than 12,000 tourists. Many of them are interested in joining the Grand Isle International Tarpon Rodeo, an annual event in July that made Grand Isle a leading destination for family vacations. The tarpon rodeo, which started in 1928, is the oldest fishing tournament in the country. But joining the said event is just one the things to do in Grand Isle. There are fishing competitions almost every weekend, starting from late spring to the middle of fall. Thus, in planning your Grand Isle vacations, the best months to go are from May to October.
The first fishing rodeo happens in the first week May at the Bridge Side Marina. It is a three-day affair that is called the World Cat Fishing Rodeo. If the family missed this, there are two more in June. The first is called the 12th Annual Swollfest Fishing Rodeo and the second is called Hooks for Hearts Fishing Rodeo. Swollfests are usually competitions for getting the biggest fish. In late August, family vacations may include the 48th Grand Isle Original Redfish Rodeo. In late September, there is the 45th Caminada Redfish Rodeo. And in mid-October, there is the Grand Isle Ladies Fishing Rodeo.
