OUR TAKE ON WAILUKU
The quietest town on Maui, Wailuku still retains its southern charm, despite being a popular Hawaiian vacation spot. The gateway to Iao Mountains, most of Wailuku's attractions are within a 5 minute drive. In fact, Wailuku has no available lodging in town -- you will need to head to other cities to find quality lodging. Nevertheless, Wailuku is still a popular vacation spot, with its main attraction being the Iao Mountains. Attracting thousands of kids and adults every month, Wailuku might be your solution to a peaceful escape from busy Hawaii.
To learn about Wailuku's fascinating history, take a short 30 minute train ride through the Maui Tropical Plantation. Explore living plantations with your kids and view exotic plants -- and yes, you'll get to eat them later! Try their dried papaya for a sweet treat your kids will enjoy for cheap.
For even more fun, check out the Waiehu Municipal Golf Course, a beautiful 18 course golfing retreat featuring the best views in Wailuku. Golf here is cheap also, scarcely over $20 a person. Although the course is a bit challenging for kids, adults will find this course challenging enough.
When you're ready to unwind, drive to neighboring Kaanapali for first class lodging. Along with kid friendly sites available all around town, Kaanapali also features the best romantic views on Maui. To make it extra romantic, order a whirlpool suite.
