Makawao Vacations, Tourism & Travel Information

OUR TAKE ON MAKAWAO

The only western town in Hawaii, Makawao breathes upon its years of longevity as a true western town, standing out from other Hawaiian town on the Big Island.  The most unique vacation you'll find on the Island, Makawao is worth the stay -- or at least, worth the adventure.  Besides taking your kids to Mount Haleakala or healing yourself at a local alternative health spa, there are attractions and restaurants abound in this small (but exciting) city in north Maui.  Make sure to take the kids here for a vacation that is very un-Hawaiian.

To entertain the kids, take them to Piiholo Ranch, just outside of Makawao.  Kids can ride on horses twice daily, exploring the Hawaiian outback with tour guides dressed in traditional western attire.  If this proves to be too much of an adventure, take your kids to Mount Haleakala, where scenic trails circle the edge of this beauitful mountain.

For fun spent away from kids, visit downtown Makawao for a romantic adventure.  Besides relaxing at a local spa, eat at a Makawao restaurant, with private, romantic seating to make your night special.  There are numerous art galleries in town that are worth a look or two.  With seating indoors and outdoors, each gallery has something to offer during those long romantic nights on the town.

Looking for lodging?  Although lodging is not plentiful in small Makawao, it is worth the stay.  Besides staying in a traditional hut, try staying in modern Makawaon lodging, such as the picturesque inns available in town.  For more information about lodging, romantic stays, kid friendly attractions, and much more, take your vacation to Makawao's official website.
