Explore Lanai

Lanai is one of the quietest of the major Hawaiian islands, yet it has many attractions. If you're just going for the day from Maui, you can take the Expeditions ferry, and then walk to scenic Hulopo'e Beach Park from the harbor. Lanai is also a popular destination for golfers, with two beautiful courses: Challenge at Manele and Experience at Koele. In addition, there are Jeep rentals available, as well as horseback-riding and shooting clays at Koele Lodge in Lanai City.

If you're staying on Maui, the most reliable and affordable way to get to Lanai is via the Expeditions ferry. The trip takes about 45 minutes, and from the boat you can view several other islands, and frequently Humpback whales and Spinner dolphins. Chat with the friendly and knowledgeable crew, and be sure to say hi to Capt. Matty.
This is a wonderful place to hang out. There's a big, beautiful pool with twin jacuzzis, over-looking the ocean. Hulopoe Beach is just steps away, where Spinner Dolphins and green sea turtles play. You can dine on the patio in the balmy air, enjoying fresh seafood with a Hawaiian flare.
You can go hiking or horseback-riding, try archery, shoot clays, play croquet, relax by the pool, or sit indoors by the fire if it's cool.
When you wander around the lush grounds at the Koele Lodge, you feel like you've left Hawaii and landed somewhere in the south-eastern U.S. At over 1600 feet elevation, it doesn't feel tropical. This is the hotel where locals stay when visiting from other islands. Rates are more reasonable than at either of the two Four Seasons resorts on Lanai. Built in the early 1920's, this was the first and only hotel on Lanai until 1990. It has the feel of a country inn. It is located right in Lanai City, not for from the Koele Lodge, so... More >

Whether you go to Lanai for the day or for a week, Hulopoe Beach Park is a lovely place to spend the afternoon. There are picnic tables, barbecue grills, restrooms and showers. There is good snorkeling, and Spinner Dolphins often visit Hulopoe Bay. You can also camp here, but the beach spots are reserved for Lanai residents.

This outstanding course was designed by Jack Nicklaus. It features three holes on cliffs, and challenges even the best golfers. Every hole offers majestic ocean views. In the winter months you might see whales right from the fairways. More
