Family Weekend on the Big Island

As its nickname implies, Hawaii is the largest of the Hawaiian islands. It is also the newest of the islands, so much of it is covered in lava. One of the most impressive things to see on the Big Island is Volcanoes National Park. It is worthwhile driving all the way around the island if you have time. Be sure to check out Harold H. Higashihara Park, north of Kona, if you have the kids with you.

This is a beautiful luxury hotel in a quiet area outside of Kona. It has lush tropical landscaping, a large pool, two jucuzzis, ping pong, and a lovely white sand beach. The service is excellent, there are several fine restaurants, and an award-winning indoor/outdoor spa.
We always come here when we're in Kona. It's a casual bar and restaurant, fun for young singles and families alike. Known for its tasty pub-style food and a large selection of micro-brewed beers. It's a little hard to find, in a funky industrial area, but once inside, you'll find a comfortable oasis.
The drinks are delicious, the service is good and the food is great.
This is a fun place with a casual atmosphere, outdoor seating with sand floors, and incredible views. The drinks are delicious, the service is good and the food is great. My husband loves the mahi-mahi sandwich.
This is a geat place to take the family. There is a nice miniature golf course, batting cages, paint ball and arcade games. Great place to wear the kids out. It's reasonably-priced, and the staff is very friendly.
This is a very nice hotel with comfortable rooms and great views. There's a swimming pool, and you can walk out and explore the little island across the bay. Conveniently located on the water in downtown Hilo, about an hour's drive from Volcanoes National Park.

Volcanoes National Park is a fun and educational place to take the family. It's located just outside of the town of Volcano, on the Big Island of Hawaii. You can easily spend a day here, maybe two. Get the map and drive the loop, and stop at look-outs or do short hikes along the way. There's a nice cafeteria-style restaurant with incredible views of the crater. More
