A Guide to International Drive in Orlando

Many visitors to Orlando make their base on International Drive due to the overwhelming number of low cost motels, cheap eats and attractions that line this area of town. If you find yourself on I-Drive, as we locals like to call it, these are my picks for places to check out.

On the southern end of I-Drive by the Orange County Convention Center is this recently built location of the Fairfield Inn chain. It's also relatively close to SeaWorld and the Beach Line Highway (Hwy 528) at rates that are usually under $100 a night.
There are plenty of thrill rides on I-Drive, but this is one of the best. It is a huge wind tunnel that allows you to experience skydiving without having to throw yourself out of a plane.

This outdoor mall has a good variety of restaurants and nightlife, though the shopping is pretty standard mall stuff. My picks include B.B. King's Blues Bar (with live blues bands), Taverna Opa (a Greek restaurant complete with bellydancers) and Cuba Libre (a restaurant/bar with live salsa music).
This eclectic restaurant serves up a menu of Mediterranean tapas while in-house artists work around you. As if that isn't chaotic enough, there is usually a roaming musician at dinner and sometimes even belly dancers. It's just one of those fun and funky places you don't expect in a tourist area.
