Do it Like a Local - A Weekend Guide to Destin

Hand-boogies

The white sandy beaches and emerald-green waves aren't the only reason to visit the jewel of the south. Fresh seafood restaurants, fishing tours, and world-class shopping make the Destin area a favorite weekend getaway. The best beach in the south is where I call, "back home." I don't take the term "best beach" lightly because it really is one of my favorite and the best places to spend a weekend.

I've never been disappointed by an Embassy Suites, and this Destin location is one to check out. Just across from the beach, the hotel is easily accessible from attractions and restaurants all over Destin. As one of the "Best of Uptake '09," it's pretty clear that this all-suites hotel is worth checking out for your family.
This restaurant is truly one-of-a kind. I love it not just because I worked there as a teenager and it's where met my future husband, but it's one of those places you see on t-shirts all over the world. Not only does it cater to thousands of customers a day in its many levels of sit-down dining rooms, but this location hosts a full-size gift shop, gator feeding pond, and outdoor bar deck. Bring along some Sharpies to tag your name on the wall, then you'll see it year after year.

Check out the Hard Rock Cafe, Zoe's Kitchen, and Johnny Rockets for a break in your shopping day. When my my girls come along, they always bring their bathing suits to play in the splash park. They also BEG to go to the amazing toy store just a few doors down from the splash park.

Several fresh seafood restaurants are there along the harbor to sit outside and watch the action.
Take the big kids to the water park for a summer fun day! The ever-expanding water park is new every year as they continually add new rides and water attractions. There are quick-service food options available at Big Kahuna's.

If you want to see the best of the Gulf of Mexico, take a jetski tour of the water. if you're super lucky, you'll spot a school of dolphins and maybe some sting rays. For the brave souls, take a parasailing trip over the emerald water to check out the sunbathers on the white sandy beach. If you're looking to relax on the water, take a trip on the Glass Bottom Boat and watch as the dolphins join you for a cruise. More
