Family Travel Overview

Family travel with kids can be both rewarding and challenging. Here are some things you can do and think about to make your trip kid-friendly! Remember to take your kid’s ages into account. Traveling with younger kids means allowing for nap and eating times, and we'd recommend looking for hotels which offer daycare services so that you can have some time for yourselves. Family travel with older kids means finding activities which will keep them entertained, whether it's museums, parks or fun tourist attractions. Many full-service resorts have programs created specifically for kids, so they can spend the day working on arts and crafts activities or going on guided hiking or snorkeling expeditions. In the meantime, you can enjoy activities geared more towards adults. Were your kids born with flippers? Many hotels and resorts these days boast impressive kid-friendly pools complete with waterfalls and slides perfect for a relaxing family day at the poolside. Kid-friendly travel means finding interactive activities which can entertain and educate you and your kids in fun and relaxing ways.

Zoo Travel

Zoos are great places for families traveling with kids because they provide opportunities for children to learn about animals as well as to gain an appreciation for conservation. Most zoos also have healthy, kid-friendly menus and provide strollers for babies. For example, The San Diego Zoo is world famous for its innovative habitats which are home to over 4,000 animals of more than 800 species. Traveling with kids is easy at The San Diego Zoo due to the large number of kid-friendly exhibits and programs including overnight stays and summer camps. The San Diego Zoo and The San Diego Wild Animal Park are especially great for kids because children will be able to view animals in large enclosures which closely resemble their natural habitat, unlike some other zoos which places the animals in small cages. In Florida, Disney's Animal Kingdom has 500 acres for families to explore. Kids will love a ride on the Kilimanjaro Safari or a trip to the Conservation Station. Traveling with kids to Hawaii? We'd recommend the Honolulu Zoo for your family. Travel to jungles and savannas without leaving the park through Vacation Adventures and the Junior Zoo Keeper programs.

Aquarium Travel

Are your kids fans of underwater sea life? If so, we'd recommend spending some time this summer traveling to aquariums, which are a fun and relaxing way to educate and entertain kids. The Monterey Bay Aquarium in California features a three-story kelp forest and artificial waves which break over a walk-through tunnel. A million-gallon tank filled with an exciting variety of sea life makes this aquarium a perfect family travel destination.  Have you ever considered swimming with sharks? The Florida Aquarium in Tampa allows families traveling with kids to do lets you do just that, plus a two-hour tour of Tampa Bay. Or, stay in the Aquarium itself and admire the beautiful Coastal Reef Gallery. Hawaii also has a number of excellent aquariums, which is not surprising given the fact that the state is a collection of beautiful islands.

Museum Travel

Traveling with kids can be both challenging and rewarding. Museums are fun family travel destinations because their job is to entertain and to educate, two things you'll need to keep in mind when traveling with kids. Near San Francisco, the Bay Area Discovery Museum and the Exploratorium are kid friendly museums with exhibits specifically tailored to family travel. Hands-on activities and exciting shows will keep kids busy for hours. Would you like your child to learn more about art? We'd recommend traveling with your kids to museums such as the Art Institute of Chicago, which has interactive games and exhibits designed just for children. In California, San Diego's Balboa Park has a number of excellent museums designed with the young in mind, including the Museum of Man and the Aerospace Museum. And if you're headed near Florida, we'd recommend museums like Jacksonville, Florida's, Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, which has an interactive kids' section. Learning that's fun can't be beat!
