For example, the long standing boundary argument between the Calverts of Maryland and the Penns of Pennsylvania was settled on Fenwick Island when a stone was erected to mark the boundary that separated Maryland from the lower counties of Pennsylvania (now called Delaware). The stone, which is now called the Fenwick Island Lighthouse, bore the coat of arms of the Penns on its north face and the coat of arms of the Calverts on the south face.
