The City of Dover is the capital of the State of Delaware. Interestingly, the distance between Dover and Philadelphia and the distance between Dover and Washington are approximately the same, 90 miles. But this geographical characteristic is not the major reason why Dover City is the Capital of the First State. This city simply played significant roles in the various momentous events of the country’s history. For example, the center of Dover, which is known as “The Green,” is the place where Colonial delegates ratified the United States Constitution. The delegates were the first ones to ratify the Constitution making the state of Delaware the First State. The city also expanded their boundaries after the first and second world wars. And in 1937, on the heels of the Great Depression, Dover became the home of the International Laytex Corporation, a major non-agricultural industry that provided employment. Today, Dover is also a tourist destination. There many fun things to do and see in Dover City. Dover vacations can be exciting cultural experiences when the travelers watch a performance at the Schwartz Center or visit the First State Heritage Park. Aside from the Heritage Park, there are more parks and beaches in the area that will provide enjoyment for the whole family.
