OUR TAKE ON ORANGE
Having Orange vacations can be more fascinating if the traveler is aware of its history. The town of Orange in Connecticut is located on rolling hills that were once owned by the Paugusset Indians. In 1639, through negotiations, the 17.6 square miles of land was purchased by Reverend Peter Prudden for one kettle, 6 coats, 10 blankets, 12 hatchets, 12 hoes, 12 small mirrors, and 24 knives. The town was settled by families whose major trade is in farming. Orange is obviously an agricultural country. But change is slow in this town. And not until the mid-1940s did significant improvements were made. Fortunately, the slow pace of change in Orange paved the way to a better zoning system. The result is a well-planned residential community that still adheres to the New England spirit of this side of Connecticut. The heritage of Orange town is being actively preserved by the Orange Historical Society. The organization worked towards the preservation of the 1830s homestead called the Stone-Otis House and the Academy. But aside from visiting historic places, the kids in the family may use the Orange vacations by learning how to swim or to do aquatic exercises or to dive from a springboard.
