The city of Norwalk features a unique collection of Connecticut's Depression era buildings and murals, including City Hall and the post offices, which were commissioned in the 1930s by the Works Progress Administration. South Norwalk, known as “SoNo,” was once a decaying inner-city neighborhood, but has experienced a revival with the addition of a restored waterfront to the National Register of Historic Places. While in SoNo, also make sure to visit the Maritime Aquarium, which is the area's centerpiece, as well as the Switch Tower Museum, which allows patrons to stand above railroad tracks and pull the levers that move the switches and signals on the main line. Just a short ferry ride away is the Lighthouse in Sheffield Island, which is a great place to spend a day with the kids during the summer. STOPPING POINT – 3/7/2011
