THINGS TO DO

  1. Carousel Museum of New England
"I cannot imagine anyone not having a good time here. It a small hometown type museum, beautiful on the outside, with lovely examples of carousel horses and information on their history, how they're made etc. And a great giftshop packed with books, calendars, music boxes etc. of carousel stuff." - a Yahoo user
  2. Mattatuck Museum
"I like that u also recieve a tour of downtown all walking distance of Mattatuck Museum very informative.
Kids enjoyed it also they gave free buttons and copper to show them the difference in how it was made.
We were showed a water fountain the horses came to drink from it's in the center of town. So much history in this town. There were really no dilikes about this trip for my family and I would recommened anyone to visit this place." - a Yahoo user
  3. Barnes Museum
"If this house had been owned by someone famous, it would get more attention. It belongs to the local historical society and is open limited hours, so check! The house was built in 1836 and was owned by the Barnes/Bradley family until 1973. They never threw anything away and it shows. There's a large collection of pressed and cut glass goblets, 19th century toys, clothing and accessories and household goods. The house is superbly decorated in period style and is especially grand at Christmas. We live a few miles from this place and kept meaning to go. It's worth a trip from a few hours away just to visit. We have visited many house museums all over the world and this one is among the best. Downtown Southington is nearby with several small shops and restaurants. We will return in the summer to see what they have then." - a Tripadvisor user
