Litchfield Vacations, Tourism & Travel Information

Our Take on Litchfield, Connecticut

If you have ever read “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” and has been moved by the main characters in the story, then you would be interested to have Litchfield vacations. No, the setting of the novel is not in Litchfield. But the author, Harriet Beecher Stowe, was born in Litchfield. Aside from this literary significance of the town, Litchfield has many things to offer to its visitors. Located in the Northwest Hills of Connecticut, Litchfield is steeped with history. Thus, one of the must-see places is the Litchfield History Museum. From this museum, the travelers will discover that Litchfield is a prosperous town even during the Revolution when most other towns were destroyed by British and Continental forces. And though the Golden Years of Litchfield has passed, it is still a town that commands influence. For example, the Litchfield Law School produced 2 Vice-Presidents (Burr and Calhoun), 3 Justices of the United States Supreme Court, and more than 100 members of the House of Representatives. For ordinary travelers who really did not want to dwell on the country’s political affairs, Litchfield offers other places to visit and other things to do. One place to see is the Ingraham Library where photographs that depict town life and manuscripts and letters written by residents care displayed. One thing to do is to support environmental conservation by visiting the White Memorial Conservation Center. If the Litchfield vacations happen to be between summer and fall, the travelers can go to the Topsmead State Park and watch the migration of birds.
