Our Take on Avon, Connecticut

Since ancient times, the trend of growing civilizations center on bodies of water, such as the Nile River and the Yangtze River. The village of Avon in Connecticut is not an ancient community but it was certainly formed on the wooded banks of the Farmington River. On the nearby meadow plains, the people who settled and lived and made Avon their home made use of the abundantly blessed river of Farmington. Together with the picturesque surroundings, Avon becomes the destination of travelers who wanted to enjoy the peace and quiet of a New England village. Avon vacations are typically relaxing vacations that involved unhurried tours of museums and other sites that display the history of Avon. One example is the Marian Hunter History Room which is part of the Avon Free Public Library. It houses the photographs, scrapbooks, and other memorabilia that tell interesting stories about the time. The place is not just kid-friendly but also accessible for the physically-challenged. Another example is the Living Museum on Main Street. It also contains artifacts and memorabilia that date back to the 19th century. And still another example is the First Governor’s House Guards and Stables. It is the oldest cavalry unit in the country that has operated continuously. This 35-acre military reservation has 40 stall barns, one drill field, 2 outdoor rings, about 40 horses, and numerous wooded trails.
